A French judicial body has convicted ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced charges of spreading fabrications regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the husband and wife's significant age difference.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The full ruling has not yet been published.
A persistent conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's gender.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens ignored all credible evidence disproving her claim in favour of amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these assertions on her show and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her future husband when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
