Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
