PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
